Founded in 1929 as an educational institution, The Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to being the foremost museum of modern art in the world.  Museum’s departments are devoted  to Architecture and Design, Film and Video, and Photography, in addition to Painting and Sculpture, Drawings, and Prints and Illustrated Books. Subsequent expansions took place during the 1950s and 1960s planned by the architect Philip Johnson, who also designed The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden. Designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, the new MoMA doubled its exhibition space.  The new Museum opened to the public on November 20, 2004m The north galleries, which include The Leonard Dobbs Gallery, present an integrated view of the Architecture and Design collection from around 1850 to the present.  In Taniguchi’s design, the north galleries feature a clear glass wall to overlook The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, which is the most beautiful garden in Manhattan. Sculpture Garden considered the heart of the Museum houses 31 works from the collection. The installed works of art represent a vision of modern sculpture ranging from the end of the nineteenth century to more recent times. The landscaped garden includes such celebrated works as Pablo Picasso’s She-Goat (1950) and Alberto Giacometti’s Tall Figure III (1960), as well as works by contemporary artists.
